Tomales Bay

One of our favorite places on the coast is Tomales Bay. Tomales Bay is located in Marin County, Northern California, and is known for its scenic beauty, oyster farms, and outdoor recreational activities. It stretches along the western side of the Point Reyes Peninsula and is a popular destination for nature lovers and food enthusiasts.

The distance from Healdsburg to Tomales Bay is approximately 65-75 miles, depending on the specific route taken. The driving time can vary, but it generally takes around 1.5 hour by car.

Tomales Bay is renowned for its oyster farms, where visitors can enjoy freshly harvested oysters with a picturesque view of the bay. Some well-known oyster farms in the area include Hog Island Oyster Company and Tomales Bay Oyster Company. These farms offer tours, tastings, and the opportunity to purchase and enjoy oysters on-site.

Several restaurants along Tomales Bay serve delicious seafood, including the famous oysters. The restaurants often feature a casual and rustic atmosphere. Some of our popular choices include The Marshall Store and Nick's Cove Restaurant, both offering seafood-centric menus and stunning waterfront views.

While Tomales Bay is not typically associated with vineyards and wineries, the nearby region of Sonoma County, including our hometown Healdsburg, is known for its excellent wine production. Healdsburg is part of the renowned Sonoma County wine country, with many vineyards and wineries producing a variety of wines. You can explore wineries in the Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Alexander Valley, all within a relatively short drive from Healdsburg.

In addition to enjoying oysters and seafood, you can engage in various outdoor activities. The area is popular for kayaking, hiking, and bird watching. Point Reyes National Seashore, located nearby, offers scenic trails and stunning coastal views.
